Can’t be true

happy_birthday_new

Yep, it is. We officially have a 5 year old in the house (I don’t count even though I may act like I am 5 at times). Little Keaton-man is growing up so fast it is scary.

We celebrated his birthday this evening by having a bash with Chuck E. and the gang (they preform at the same time, in the same place, and play the same 3 songs every night of the week at their favorite venue; Chuck-E-Cheese). I was a blast to watch Keaton and Camby run around trying to figure out what to do next. I am sure if they could have split themselves into 50 different people they would have. Cambry loved going on the “rides” and Keaton was actually not to bad at Skeeball.

We had a few family members there – of course Grandma and Grandpa (both sides) were there as well as a few friends and aunts and uncles. We always enjoy having friends & family around and are grateful that they could come hang out with us for a while.

This is what I don’t understand – I get the fact that there may be a lot of shoplifting from toy stores (especially with a bad economy), and I get that the toy manufacturers want to display their products in the best possible way, but why is it like trying to break into Fort Knox to get the dang toys out of the packaging?? The stores should have acetylene torches and bolt cutters on hand to help remove the 15 layers of protection that we, the parents, have to spend hours trying to get through. Am I alone on this one?? Come on Matel…seriously. As a side note, at least Amazon.com is trying to remedy this situation.

Yes, Keaton got a lot of really cool things that he had been wanting for quite a while. When we first asked him what he wanted for his birthday (several months ago) he informed us that he wanted a motorcycle – not just a play one or a little battery powered toy one, but a real, loud, ride-on motorcycle. We tried to inform him that he would need to be a ltitle bit older (and richer) to have one, but it was hard to get through to him. In the end, he settled for a skateboard and a Spiderman ensemble.

Keaton is such a great kid! He is loving and kind (except when fighting with Sis) and loves the good things in life. There is a spark about him and I know that he is a special kid. I am proud and grateful to be his Dad and hope that I can be everything I need to be for him and help teach him the important things in life.

Speaking of being his Dad, am I really that old? Do I really have a 5 year old kid? It’s crazy, right?

Sorry for being such a slacker in writing on this blog. I (insert broken record reference here) will try harder to keep you all up to date. We hope everyone is doing well and we love you all.

I know, I know…

It has been a LONG while since we updated here. A lot has happened in our household and if you follow Celeste’s blog you know a few of those things.

The most recent even has been the Fourth of July. It was a great day and we had a lot of fun watching fireworks – even thought I had a case of food poisoning (see this picture -  and read this). We went to Pleasant Grove Jr. High school where the PG Fire Dept. put on a great display.

This last weekend we went camping at the new Hardy property above Fairview. It is a beautiful piece of land and we had fun exploring the wilderness.

There is of course a ton of other stuff that has happened over the last few months (I can’t believe it has been that long). I will be posting more over the next few days.

Small update…

since there hasn’t seemed to be any news worhty enough to blog about in the last month and a half. I could keep apologizing to our “loyal readers” but I don’t think you would buy it. So here is a quick update about what we have been up to.

The kids 02-2009

The kids 02-2009

Keaton and Cambry are both still alive. For today anyway. Keaton is still going to, and enjoying, pre-school and loves to tell us what he learned about that day. He has missed a few times due to an illness that got 3 out of 4 of us sick, but he seems to be in good health now – as do the rest of us too. Cambry is still her cute little self. She can be the biggest trouble maker one second and then trun on the cute juice and be the sweetest thing the next. She has got this stuff down to a science and I am a little worried for the years to come. She has almost got the potty training thing down and some days goes without an “accident” while others are riddled with damp undies. She is getting better about it and we are celebrating not having had to buy diapers for some time now. Cambry also recieved a hair cut at the hands of brother (he also played barber on himself) which prompet a new hair-do. It’s still pretty cute and we are patiently waiting for it to grow back out. You can read more about that on Celeste’s blog.

Celeste and I are still plugging away. I am always busy with work and am thankful that I have a job with some security at this point in time. Celeste is busy designing wedding invites and such and trying to get in some photography here and there. She has also been having some fun playing jokes on her blog (and revealing the punchline).

Of course I have not updated any of my other blogs, but need to.

So in a nutshell, that’s the news of the Grover’s. Maybe you’ll get some more in another month or so – we’ll see.

New Year – Old Blog

2009_sign

It was a great 2008! (I’m a poet and I didn’t even know it…HA) 2009 has come in with a bit of luck. Our site, thegroverhome.com, is back up a running thanks to a great deal on hosting. Please update your bookmarks so you don’t get left out in the cold or wonder when we are going to update our blog again! (I know, you just got your bookmark updated to the other site and know you have to change it back – I live to make life difficult, just ask Celeste :) )

While we are talking about a new year, let me tell you that I have great hopes for the year to come. Celeste beat me to posting about the ever present new years resolutions and I think, after reading her post, that she hit the nail on the head. Continued…

Not there yet…WHEN ALREADY?!?

Cambry has been pretty stubborn about going on the “big girl” potty. I think it’s more lazy than anything. I really thinnk we are in trouble down the road because she is so good at getting what she wants already. We keep hoping and praying that she will come around so we can officially be done with diapers. Please leave a comment if you have any suggestions.

PS – If you are wondering about how our Halloween was, then head on over to Celeste’s site – she updates it more than I do this one. Sorry.

The blessed day is near

The days and hours are ticking away and we are getting much closer to being on the threshold of a major development. No, not the second coming or the new season of Lost, but the blessed day when diapers will not be needed in our house (at least until one of us becomes incontinent).

Cambry has been practicing being a “big girl” and going on the big-girl potty. She has been doing really well so far and hasn’t had many accidents. She goes for most of the day now with her big girl underware on and is pretty good at telling us she needs to go.

We are so happy that we won’t have to deal with changing diapers for much longer. Who ever thought that going to the bathroom was something to celebrate? We’ll keep you posted on the progress.

Dancing Queen and The Prince

The other day we were watching a Little Einstein video and Cambry felt like dancing to some of the music. Of course Keaton had to get in on it too, but liked to be behind the camera. Here is some video we shot for your entertainment.

“Today marks the seventh anniversary of the day our world was broken,” Mayor Michael Bloomberg said at the start of the ceremony, calling Sept. 11, 2001, a “day that began like any other and ended as none ever has.” Article

The memories I have of September 11, 2001 seem surreal. It was early morning and I was just getting ready to leave for work – I would have been a little late. My dad was watching the news on TV and I happened to pop my head in the room and notice this peculiar news story that was being broadcast live. It seemed that an airplane had crashed into the WTC.
